Echendu Adiele is dead

Former Sharks FC, Saarbrucken, Waldhof Mannheim and Fortuna Dusseldorf defender, Echendu Adiele is dead.

Adiele, who is based in Germany returned to Nigeria on holidays four days ago and died in his sleep at about 2 am on Saturday, June 18 2011 after what a close member of his family who spoke with naijafootball247.com described as a spiritual attack.

A friend of his at the house died later in the hospital.

No other detail was given by the family about his death.

Born in 1978, Adiele signed for Port Harcourt, Nigeria based Sharks FC in 1992 and then moved to Julius Berger in 1995.

He joined Fortuna Dusseldorf in 1997 and then Borussia Neunkirchen in 1998.

He moved to FC Saarbrucken in 1999 and then SV Darmstadt in 2006. One year later he joined Waldof Mannheim and returned to Darmstadt in 2009.

Adiele was also part of Nigeria's U23 team for the 2000 Olympic games but they failed to qualify for the games proper in Greece.

He is the son of Babalola Adiele who played for the Port Harcourt XI (Red Devils) in the 1960s and then became a pioneer coach of Sharks in the early 1970s.
