Captain of Premiership Club QPR 'Joey Barton' mocks the late Gary Speed

Joey Barton was at the centre of a controversy over comments he made on Twitter about Gary Speed's death, describing suicide as a 'selfish' act. Despite sparking outcry from many other users on the social networking site, the QPR captain has refused to apologise for his 'insensitive' comments. Welsh football legend Gary Speed was tragically found hanged at his home on Sunday morning in what is thought could have been a suicide. Like countless others, Barton took to Twitter to speak of his shock at Speed's death and paid tribute to him. He posted: 'Just hearing about Gary Speed, to say am shocked is an understatement. 'My thoughts are with his family and friends. Really sad news.' However, his tributes were then swiftly followed - with astonishingly tactless timing - by his views on suicide The outspoken footballer added: 'Suicide is a mix of the most tragic, most selfish, most terrible (and I want to believe preventable) acts out there.' As Twitter users bombarded Barton in an online backlash, the star - unrepentant - branded his critics as having 'half a brain' instead of apologising for his offensive comments. He added: 'Feedback on here, small minority as usual strongly disagree with what I said. If they read carefully or had half a brain, they'd understand.' Unrepentant: After his comments caused controversy, Barton then said: 'If they read carefully or had half a brain they'd understand' Last night his comments were criticised by football fans and suicide counselling groups, with Malcolm Clarke - chairman of the Football Supporters Federation - telling the Daily Star: 'This is completely insensitive and inappropriate. 'It is disrespectful to Gary's family. we should be concentrating on the positive impact he made on the game at a time like this.' What's your view? Is anythin wrong with the statement?

Police quizzed John Terry over Racist utterance towards Anton Ferdinand

Police investigating claims John Terry racially abused Anton Ferdinand have interviewed the England and Chelsea captain under caution Detectives from Hammersmith and Fulham took a statement from the footballer at his home in Surrey last Friday Terry, 30, is accused of racially abusing Ferdinand during Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat by Queens Park Rangers last month. Police continue to compile accounts of the ugly flashpoint which was caught on camera late in the derby at Loftus Road. Terry, who has also been put under the spotlight by the Football Association, denies racially abusing the QPR defender but has admitted using offensive words He insisted they have been taken out of context after he was convinced Ferdinand accused him of a racist remark The star welcomed the Football Association’s inquiry as an opportunity to clear his name. The Metropolitan Police opened an investigation after a complaint. Several other Chelsea and QPR players have also been interviewed and a preliminary file is understood to have been passed to prosecutors. A decision on whether Terry should be charged with any offence is likely to be made around Christmas if all witnesses can be contacted. He is suspended for the Carling Cup quarter-final against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge tonight after picking up a yellow card against Wolves on Saturday. A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: ‘A 30-year-old man was interviewed under caution on Friday November 25. He was not arrested.’

Basketball Coach Molest small boys......

Three men say Bernie Fine molested them when they were boys Bobby Davis taped a phone call with Laurie Fine in bid to prove abuse Police and ESPN had tapes for ten years but didn't do anything Federal agents raid Mr Fine's house after third victim comes forward Coach Jim Boeheim supports decision and apologises for being 'insensitive' Accuser Zach Tomaselli says Penn State scandal made him come forward Two alleged victims of Bernie Fine today praised Syracuse University for firing the former basketball coach accused of sex abuse. Bobby Davis and Mike Lang claimed he 'got what he deserved' and the university did 'the right thing'. Fine was fired last night just hours after damning new evidence suggested his wife watched him molest a boy staying at their house. Laurie Fine allegedly told one of her husband's three accusers in a recorded phone call that she suspected he had done the same to other boys - but that she never did anything to stop it. She is also said to have revealed that she slept with one of the victims, once he turned 18 - as it emerged that the tapes had been in the hands of police and ESPN for nearly ten years and no action was taken. One of the alleged victims Mr Davis, now 39, says he secretly taped the conversation in 2002 in an effort to collect proof that the longtime college basketball coach had abused him, starting when he was 12 years old. Fired: Bernie Fine has lost his job as head basketball coach at Syracuse University amid child abuse allegations 'I know everything that went on, you know,' she says on tapes played by ESPN's Outside the Line program. 'I know everything that went on with him. Bernie has issues, maybe that he's not aware of, but he has issues. And you trusted somebody you shouldn't have trusted.' He said the university has 'done the right thing' by firing Mr Fine - and he hopes Mr Fine now knows ‘he is not invincible’. Mr Fine has denied the allegations as 'patently false.' However, the upstate New York university last night fired the 65-year-old coach after putting him on administrative leave earlier this month. 'At the direction of Chancellor Cantor, Bernie Fine's employment with Syracuse University has been terminated, effective immediately,' said Kevin Quinn, the school's senior vice president for public affairsm Source:Dailymail
