A former racing driver has died after flipping his high-performance car while speeding through south London.
Christian Bakkerud, a 26-year-old Dane who competed in the British Formula
Three, died in hospital on Sunday after suffering serious head injuries in
the crash in Wandsworth on Saturday.
He had been driving his silver Audi RS6 when it overturned on the Tibbets
Roundabout.
Mr Bakkerud, who lived in Kensington, has also competed in the 2009 and 2010
Le Mans 24 Hour Race.
His career highlight was a British F3 win at Mugello in 2006.
But he retired last year after suffering recurrences of a back injury he
sustained while racing in 2007.
Since then he worked as an Import Manager at a global shipping company, Shipco
Transport, before leaving earlier this year.
Scotland Yard is investigating the death, but say they do not believe any other vehicles were involved in the crash.TELEGRAPH
