Nigerian Football: NFF to hold 2014 Extra-Ordinary Congress in Warri

After a two-month long seemingly unending crisis in the Nigerian Football Family, there seem to be peace at the valley as Chris Giwa step aside and the NFF arranged a congress which will determine a new date for an election.

The Nigeria Football Federation has finally disclosed that it will hold an Extra-Ordinary General Assembly in Warri, capital of Delta State on Saturday, 20th September, 2014 after the two month leadership crisis that rocked the federation ends last week Monday.

Speaking in Abuja to press men on Tuesday, NFF General Secretary, Barrister Musa Amadu, stated that the event is the first of two such Congresses advised by world football –governing body, FIFA, to usher in a new NFF Executive Committee.

“At the Extra-Ordinary Congress, the General Assembly will elect persons into a fresh NFF Electoral Committee and a new NFF Electoral Appeals Committee.

“The General Assembly will also, at the same event, decide on a date and venue for the Elective Congress, which we hope will take place before the end of the month,” Amadu explained.

All the Chairmen and Secretaries of the Football Associations of the 36 States and the FCT, as well as Chairmen and Secretaries of the various Leagues, Coaches Association, Referees Association and Players’ Union are expected to be in attendance at the event slated for Brownhills Events Centre, and starting at 11am.

Amadu also disclosed that the grand finale of this year’s Men and Women Federation Cup competitions will come up only after the Elective Congress of the NFF.
