Mr Baribote was handed a 15-year ban from all football-related activitiesDeposed chairman of the Nigeria Premier League, Victor Baribote, has described as laughable the 15-year ban slammed on him by the Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation.
Mr Baribote said Tuesday morning on a sports programme on radio that it beats his imagination that the NFF who are the accused in his petition have also constituted themselves to be arbiters in the same vein.“I complained about the federation that they are inconsistent in their laws and since I have complained about the federation; can they be the accused as well as the judge in their own matter; that is the issue.
I don’t know why in Nigeria we decide to be lawless; when people are in power they do anything they want and get away with it” Mr Baribote stated. He continued: “How can you that I am complaining about set up a committee to look into the matter, it is really laughable, for me I don’t want to talk much about that I have better things to think about.”
On his part, Emeka Inyama, who headed the investigative panel that handed Baribote the lengthy ban advised the aggrieved to seek redress at the Court of Arbitration for Sports as it is the process in sports-related issues.“In football there are procedures and due processes that are clearly spelt out in the NFF statues, he knows what to do, like the example of Chief Amos Adamu when he was banned by FIFA he went to the Court Of Arbitration for Sports even though he lost there; those are the avenues to be exploited,” Mr Inyama said.
According to the communiqué from the NFF, the 15-year ban for Baribote and the 10-year ban slammed on former Secretary General of the Federation Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi both takes immediate effect.
