Flamingoes yesterday got a big boost before their all-important quarterfinal clash against France today, with a largess of $10,000 (over N158m) from the president of Nigeria football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Aminu Maigari.
Maigari, who was accompanied by 1st vice president of the federation, Chief Mike Umeh, Chairman NFF Technical committee Chris Green, Team Coordinator Aisha Falode and Nasir Jibril wished the team well whilst charging them to make sure they take down France and qualify for the semifinals of the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup in Azerbaijan.
"I have come here to give you girls moral support when you take on France in the quarterfinal". I have received good reports from all quarters concerning you and that you are a prayerful side. I commend you for your good behaviour and trust in God".
“Everyone back home is praying for you so put in your best and bring the trophy home. Our President, Goodluck Jonathan told me to tell you to come home with the trophy. Likewise the Honourable Minister of sports, Bolaji Abdullahi has assured that he will personally come for the final match should you make it to the finals” said Maigari.
Speaking further, the NFF supremo said he was impressed with the fighting spirit the girls exhibited against Colombia and he asked the team to keep it up because the Federation is satisfied and proud of what the girls have achieved so far. He also went on to say that the board is working out modality to adequately reward the team.
"We are putting our heads together at the Board to work out the perfect reward for you and also upgrade your allowances and bonuses, it is now left for you to do your part and leave our part for us because we will adequately reward you.
“My daughters please go out there against France and in the other subsequent matches and make your country, family and yourselves proud" Maigari reiterated.
1st assistant coach Chris Danjuma thanked the president and his entourage for the support the team has received during the qualifiers and even here at the World Cup, assuring they would not let the country down.
"We are not only overwhelmed by your presence but we are equally fired up. We promise you we will not let you down. We have also vowed that nothing will stop us from realising their dream which is lifting the trophy” he said.
The match will be played at the 8km Stadium by 8pm Azerbaijani time and 4pm Nigerian time today.
