Nigeria Coach Stephen Keshi has been asked to prune down his list of 42 call-ups for a World Cup qualifier against Malawi to 33.Keshi invites 42 for MalawiAfter close to five hours of meeting at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) secretariat, the Chris Green-led technical committee described as distraction the list of 24 home-based players for the September 7 match against Malawi in Calabar.
"The CHAN is in January, we have so much time. We want him to harmonise his list, get us a list of 33 whether home or foreign based for us to look at for the match against Malawi," stated the NFF technical committee spokesperson Paul Bassey.
"The technical committee has seen the list he put forward and we are suggesting that we don't want any distractions from the game against Malawi, so Keshi is to prone the list and they are to report on the 1st of September."
On Tuesday, Keshi named 24 players from the domestic league and 18 players based overseas for the Malawi match, saying he wanted to start preparing for the 2014 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) in earnest. The African champions will also host Burkina Faso to a friendly on September 10 in Kaduna.
