Keshi should drop Joseph Yobo from the team - Orji Uzor Kalu

Former Governor of Abia State, Orji Kalu, has charged Nigerian coach, Stephen Keshi, to stick to the winning Super Eagles squad rather than changing players in “trial and error.”

Speaking in Abuja after the Eagles 1-1 draw with Kenya on Saturday, Kalu said, “Keshi should not do trial and error. I think Yobo should go although he has been so kind to the national team but he should give way for other younger players. Stephen Keshi should stick to his first eleven. He should not allow anyone to impose a player on him.”

The former governor also advised that all the national team players should be insured.

“The federal government should ensure that all the players of the national team are insured. There should be an insurance measure to cover every player for every match or else these guys will not (play) at their best,” he said.

Kalu also charged the Federal Government to release more money for football development.
“The Federal Government should release more money on training exercises for the Super Eagles,” he said.
He also decried the involvement of the government in the affairs of Nigerian football. He said, “Sports should not be government based only. Governors were giving houses and gifts to players. Giving gifts to players isn’t part of sports development. The rich can build sport academies and run it successfully like Bukola Saraki is doing.”

“Nigerian sports has gone down the drain. Winning African cup of nations doesn’t make us a footballing nation. We need to develop our sports,” he said.
