Accused: Pablo Migliore was arrested at the end of San Lorenzo's match with Newell's Old Boys on suspicion of helping a football hooligan wanted for homicide, with his club shirt featuring Pope Francis on the left

An Argentinian goalkeeper has been arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting a football hooligan who is wanted for homicide.

Pablo Migliore was detained on Sunday night after his San Lorenzo side had lost 1-0 to Newell's Old Boys when police sealed off the stadium and arrested the keeper on the pitch.

Migliore stands accused of helping to hide notorious Boca Juniors 'barra brava' - a football hooligan - Maximiliano Mazzaro, who allegedly beat neighbour Ernesto Cirino to death in 2011.

Mazzaro - who is second in command among the Boca Juniors hooligan group - has been on the run for three months and Migliore, a former Boca player and captain of current club San Lorenzo, is suspected of helping him to abscond.

Sports journalist Gustavo Grabia told the same station goalkeeper Migliore was known for his affiliation with the Boca 'barras' after his time playing for the club, and also through his brother who was allegedly involved in violent incidents.

So far, Migliore has not commented about his alleged connection to Mazzaro or his arrest.
