birmingham/arsenal titbits....(Carling cup final 2011)

Substitute Martins earned the St Andrews club their first trophy since 1963 as he scored a dramatic winner in the 89th minute at Wembley

ARSENE WENGER:
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has told his devastated squad that they cannot allow Carling Cup final heartbreak to derail their season how far can they go?

We have to be proud of our attitude, continue with our belief, pick ourselves up and face the other challenges we have.

OBAFEMI MARTINS:

The winning goal in the 2011 Carling Cup final was the easiest in the career of Obafemi Martins, according to the Birmingham hero.

"I'm glad I scored today and I'm glad we won. I think it was my second touch. I'm very happy.

"The gaffer (Alex McLeish) said to me that I would come on in the second half, so I think he did it right.

"It means a lot to the fans and players - we really need this trophy."

Six years ago Wenger couldn't be bothered with the then Worthington Cup, because they were 'too good' for it, they had 'more important' cups to chase. Gooners started calling it the "worthless cup" or "the two bob bit cup"

Wenger blamed fatigue from a fight on four fronts, and there was a degree of lethargy in their performance that supported his view. But take nothing away from Alex McLeish and his players. They were magnificent in the way they put their relegation battle to one side and focused on winning silverware and securing their place in Europe.

Alex Mcleish(Birmingham's Coach)
No doubt you need a little bit of luck - and we deserved it today.

We didn't deal with the equaliser well
