The players of Dolphins football club of Port Harcourt have said
they will not play the in the Nigeria Professional Football League when
the second round resumes July 3rd.
The
intention to abandon participating in the League was disclosed in a
letter they wrote to the Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, with
copied sent to the Commissioners for Sports and Finance.
Lamentations
In
the letter, the team lamented the fact that they have not been paid
their sign on fees for two years, and noted that the state government
and finance ministry had made promises that have not been kept.
The last of the promises was the 'guarantee' made to the players that the money would be paid in July.
The
players said they have concluded that since the first round of the
season has ended, it would be prudent of them to stop playing now,
instead of ending another season without their money being paid.
