RIO FERDINAND accepted the England captaincy from shamed John Terry despite having a mistress himself, a court heard yesterday.
Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand, 32, claims a Sunday newspaper kiss and tell story in the run-up to last year’s World Cup intruded on his private life.
But the Sunday Mirror’s lawyer Gavin Millar said Rio’s alleged off-field antics were in the public interest.
He told the High Court in London that Terry’s affair with the ex-girlfriend of team-mate Wayne Bridge made the lives of England skippers a talking point.
Defender Rio is expected to take the stand today.
